Welcome to Mary Queen of Heaven’s Son de Flor de Corazon (Spanish for: Flower of the Heart), a Mexican Dance Program for youth, ages 6 years through 18 years of age and young adults. Flor de Corazon began as a church out reach effort that would keep children occupied and yet also teach them about their culture diversity and history. In 2005 Fr. Esequiel Sanchez, Pastor, and Ms. Sandra Valdez, Director of the Program, met with a common vision; to provide a quality education on culture, music, art, dance and history to children and young adults in the community of Cicero. Since then the program, which originally began with less than fifteen students has now grown to over eighty students. This year we have also been blessed with the arrival of Ms. Luz Valdez as our new Choreographer and Ms. Marta Becerra as Assistant to the Director.

Flor de Corazon is not merely a dance program but a true ministry of the parish. Students learn about the Mexican cultural and historical heritage as well as the contributions this cultural heritage has made to the arts in general. Students learn about team work, presentation, discipline, faith and service. Our volunteers and assistants help students in developing self –esteem, artistic expression, social and group learning skills as well as structure that leads to goal attainment skills.

Classes meet Monday, Tuesday and Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for children under 13 years of age in the school gym located on the corner of 53rd Ave and 24th Place in Cicero. Students 14 years and up meet from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. on the same days.

If you are interested in participating in our dance program, please feel free to come by any day when class is in session and meet our wonderful team of volunteers who help make this ministry possible and would be more than happy to welcome you and your family to the wonderful world of Mexican Folkloric Dance

Mary Queen of Heaven is currently looking for a few generous benefactors who are interested in providing scholarships for needy children and families living in Cicero as well as making a difference in supporting Mexican cultural heritage and the Arts.

If you would like to become a “Padrino de la Danza” and make a gift or would just like to learn more about our program, please contact either Fr. Esequiel Sanchez or Ms. Sandra Valdez at:
